Care Package -Baking Style

So a higher up in hubby's office has requested no-bake cookies from me.
I thought it was funny and rather random that I was the chosen one to make them.
I am pretty sure I haven't baked anything from scratch in about a year or so.

I figured since I was going to bake, I might as well make a day of it.
I invited a friend over and we got to baking.

No-Bake Cookies
Peanut Butter Fudge
Rice Krispie Treats

I figured all of these will be able to last the 5-7 days it takes to get delivered to Afghanistan.

I included a box specifically for the person requesting the cookies.
I wrote: 'For the OLD MAN.
Baked with love while I was in labor.'

All of the goodies packed up to go. I put them all in Ziploc containers but also wrapped in plastic wrap and some foil. There is still a part of me that was paranoid they would all be gross by the time hubby received it. I cut up the rice krispies and wrapped them individually and stacked them in between all of the containers to decrease any shifting or movement while being delivered.
I also threw this shirt in the top of the box for hubby.
While at Wal-Mart, babygirl saw this shirt and starting hollering about Santa Claus.
So since my hubby is a t-shirt guy, I figured it would make him laugh.
Especially knowing that babygirl was excited over it.
It's the $5 randomness that I love to send him. :)

Care Package -Decorating

Like I have said before,
babygirl is serious when it comes to coloring on boxes for her daddy.
She misses him SO much and I know that coloring pictures and boxes for him is a special deal to her.

This is one of the first care packages that I sent hubby.
At his going-away party I invited people to bring items to help fill his first boxes up.
It was fun to send him things from a group of people when he first got overseas.
There was a lot of snacks and hygiene items in the first few boxes.

Care Package-Thanksgiving Style

I had been looking for ideas as of what to send hubby in a Thanksgiving care package.
There were a lot of ideas on the web about sending a complete 'meal' that he'd be missing with us.
I'm pretty sure the DFAC will have some sort of Thanksgiving-ish meal provided.
So I wasn't too keen on that idea.
Hubby wasn't too interested in any fall or Thanksgiving décor.
His favorite holiday and season is Christmas.
So I figured babygirl and I could decorate a Thanksgiving box but fill it with Christmas things.
I'm almost 110% positive that there is no way I could send him TOO much Christmas stuff. :)

Decorating and coloring the box.

The items I picked up to put in the box.
I purchased everything here at Wal-Mart.
Hubby had requested Little Debbie Christmas cakes so I got 3 different kinds of those.
I found white chocolate covered Oreos and knew those were amazing so he definitely should get those :)
2 sets of Christmas lights to decorate his room with.
Matching mini stockings with initials for him and his room mate.
Garland.
Glow in the dark snowflakes.
Chocolate covered cherries.
Kids craft kits :) Like make your own North Pole and mitten garland

These 4 items were from Dollar Tree.
The snowman and Santa are just garland décor.
We have a bigger Santa just like that hanging up at home.
(not sure if hubby would remember that though)
The key says: 'Dear Santa, I don't have a chimney please use the key.'
And a gag gift of coal that says 'You've been Naughty'
I figure he could give that to someone in his office that he works with or something.

This is the box all finished and packed up.
On the right is a turkey made from Lily's hand.
She had the most fun doing that part.
She is obsessed with tracing her hand onto everything these days.

I wrote a little note to hubby on the left.
Reminding him of the exact date that we met 7 years ago.
My life began on that day.

Care Package-Halloween Style

Hubby's Halloween carepackage was filled with candy, décor, and treats for him to share with his battles.

Crazy babygirl while we were shopping for daddy's things.

Daddy had amazing timing on this day.
I was having a rough day.
Just dealing with a mixture of deployment/pregnancy hormones.
I felt unloved, not missed, forgotten.
Which I know is silly, but it's a part of deployment.
It happens to us all.
But when I checked the mailbox, my AMAZING hubby had sent both babygirl and I a card.
The timing was incredible.
He always knows how to deliver an extra dose of love exactly when I need it.

Shopping with this monster is a real treat!

We sent hubby a Halloween costume.
A hotdog! :)
Anything for those guys to be able to relax a second and have a laugh.
This care package was one of my favorites to decorate.
Just because it was all so cute.
It's been too long ago now that I can't even remember what all I sent him in this fun box.
I know there were some snacks like Honey Buns and candy.
I included treat bags filled with candy and Army men for him to pass out.
Glow sticks.
Hubby had actually sent me a pretty large list of things he needed/wanted now that he was finally getting settled out of the tents and into his actual room.
I know I sent him new tennis shoes and bedding (Dora sheets and blanket)

Care Packages

We miss daddy a LOT around here!
So we use care packages to express just how much we love and miss him.
It is fun for both babygirl and I to color and decorate the boxes that we send him.
I make a big deal out of the shopping trips that are for Daddy's things.
Occasionally I let babygirl pick out a special present all by herself to send to Daddy.

I picked up watercolor paint at the Dollar Tree in an attempt at letting babygirl finger paint on the outside of one of the care packages. I'm not sure if it was just because it was from the Dollar Tree or if she just got too happy with the water, but it was a major fail!
I ended up just letting her paint on some construction paper.
We ended up with a soaking wet box and it was disastrous.

Usually I just let her color on the outside with crayons and a pen.
She enjoys this the most.
I always let her pick out special stickers to cover the box in as well.
If it is a themed care package then I steer her choices towards those,
but when we are just sending a regular box she has free reign of sticker choice.
I think Daddy has gotten SpongeBob, Dora and Disney Princess so far.

This was our Halloween care package.
I like buying decorative tape to close them up with.
Just because cute duct tape is fun :)

Handmade gifts

I have decided that I am going to
ATTEMPT
to make lots of handmade things for Christmas this year.

I have already accomplished 50% of a HUGE gift and I am so excited to be able to share it.
However, I won't be able to do that until Christmas because it is for someone in my family and a few of my siblings and even my dad reads this blog!
I am beyond excited about it and feel so very proud of myself!
Here is a sneak peek.

Now the other night I was browsing Pinterest for some gift inspiration.
I came across this blog

Mommy's Idea

after seeing this pin

GORGEOUS!
I think I can whip one up pretty quickly for my sisters.
Heck, I may sew one for myself!
If you go at the right time, Walmart always has sheer fabric on sale for $1.00/yd
This tutorial calls for 2 yards.
Cheap and super easy gift.
Plus, didn't I mention it was gorgeous?

Once I get the fabric bought and start on them I will be sure to post about it.
I have to head out and grab more thread though, as my big project has quickly gone through a whole spool.
